I don't care where I fly into (in India), I'm just looking for the cheapest way to get there from Melbourne, Australia.  Guessing that into Thailand or Singapore, then onwards, would prob be my best bet.  Any hints?  T'would be much appreciated!

Air India Express flies from Singapore for several cities in India.

Nok Air recently started fights from Bangkok to Bangalore.

Thanks Robert - can't seem to find any flights on Air India Express website, but Nok Air have a timetable and prices, which seem pretty reasonable.  Much appreciated!

Tiger Airways has connecting flights from Darwin and Perth to Chennai and Kochi.  They fly Melbourne to Singapore but apparently that's not a connecting flight, though a couple of days in Singapore should allow you to go on to India.
