Thai AirAsia has cut its flights between Bangkok and Rangoon from seven to three flights a week, due to the state of unrest in Burma, which has led to a 50-per-cent drop in flight bookings on the route.

Thai AirAsia had started reducing flights between Bangkok and Rangoon yesterday and that the cut back to just three flights a week would be fully implemented by the end of the month.

The airline will only resume full operations if the situation in Rangoon "returns to normal".

"Many Western tourists have canceled trips from Thailand into Burma, while many Thais are seeking to switch to other destinations. Others are waiting to see what happens," Tassapon said.

As with all such special incidents, the airline will return money to those who have made advance bookings and later canceled. They are allowed to change their destinations without any cost.

With seven flights per day it must have been a very popular route.

According to news reports Burma issues only a limited number of visitor visas per year.
Was it mostly Thais or Burmese that traveled on this route?
