Jetstar has introduced new double daily domestic operations on the Sydney-Brisbane route, the nation’s second largest domestic market. Jetstar will also continue to operate a daily A330-200 morning service which commenced on 26 March 2007 as a one way only flight between Brisbane and Sydney, representing one leg of its daily Sydney - Osaka - Brisbane international service.
The new double daily A320 operations by Jetstar on the Sydney-Brisbane route, allows the value based carrier to offer a triple daily Brisbane-Sydney direct service, supported by Jetstar’s narrow body fleet expansion of A320 family aircraft.
Jetstar Chief Executive Officer Alan Joyce said the new double daily domestic services represented incremental growth in Qantas Group operations on the route with Jetstar adding almost 2500 additional weekly seats to the Sydney-Brisbane market.
“Jetstar’s growth on the Sydney-Brisbane route, which currently carries over 4 million passengers annually, will complement Qantas’ existing high levels of frequency on this important domestic market,” Mr Joyce said.
“Jetstar now connects Australia’s three largest state capitals of Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane – achieved in Melbourne through one of our two domestic airport operations – at Melbourne Airport and Melbourne Avalon Airport.”
Recently approved by the Qantas Group Board, Jetstar’s narrow body operations will expand by an order of up to 108 aircraft including 68 A320 / A321 aircraft plus 40 options and purchase rights. Jetstar has an existing fleet of 23 A320 aircraft seat configured for 177 passengers. The value based carrier has previously announced an additional 9 A320s for its Australian domestic operations to enter service between December 2007 and March 2009.
