Thai budget airline Nok Air will start flights to Hanoi from Bangkok in November.

Nok Air will offer two flights a day using Boeing 737-400s and Boeing 737-800s, said Vo Huy Cuong of Vietnam's Civil Aviation Administration.

Several budget airlines - including Singapore's Tiger Airways, Thai AirAsia and Malaysian AirAsia - have begun flying to Vietnam the last couple years to help meet surging travel demand in the booming Southeast Asian nation.

Cuong said Vietnam air traffic has grown 14-18 percent a year in recent years. Currently, there are 35 foreign airlines operating in Vietnam.

Nok Air currently operates one other international route (Bangkok to Bangalore). The airline plans to add several other news international destinations next year.

Nok Air will launch two daily flights between Bangkok and Hanoi, from 1 November 2007. The flights will be serviced by a Next-Generation Boeing 737-800, with a capacity of 190 seats. Nok Air’s international flights are operated from Suvarnabhumi Airport, at check-in counters at row D, numbers D14 and D15.

“All of us at Nok Air are very excited about expanding our international route network to Hanoi,” said Patee Sarasin, Chief Executive Officer, Nok Air. “We look forward to welcoming all travellers to fly with Nok Air and experience the vibrant culture of our neighbor, Vietnam, as well as to bring Vietnamese travelers to fully enjoy our Thai hospitality as we launch our services in the true Nok Air style.”

“In addition, our passengers will enjoy the enhanced comfort and entertainment of our Next-Generation Boeing 737-800, which will be equipped with the newest modern interior designs for passenger ease and safety, including larger windows for better views. Its fuel efficiency means that it is kinder to the environment and the reduced fuel consumption is certainly a positive in this era of high fuel costs,” Patee added.

Reservations for flights can be made on the Nok Air website, or at the Nok Air special call center number +662-900-9911. Prices start from THB 3 for a one way trip and conditions apply (exclusive of airport tax, fuel surcharge and other fees). Nok Air’s passengers can also book their own favorite seats by using Pre-seat assignment service.

Nok Air recently suspended flights to Hanoi.

AirAsia is the only budget airline flying on this route at the moment.
