"Ryanair is to quote fares on its website inclusive of taxes, following criticism of some airlines' advertising by two UK consumer watchdogs. The Office of Fair Trading Office, and passenger watchdog the Air Transport Users Council, said that while some carriers published the full price of the fare at every stage of booking, other airlines did not, which made it difficult to compare prices. For example this means consumers may initially see a Ryanair flight for £9.99 when they first log on to the website, but find that this price has risen considerably by the end of the booking when all the taxes and charges are added on."

I often see taxes, fuel surcharges, insurance and every imaginable other charge added to the advertised price, where extra fees are actually greater than the ticket price. Good move on Ryanair's part. Do all European carriers have to advertise fares inclusive of taxes?

All the airlines quote fares that way in the US, so it's fairly easy to compare.  The add-ons are pretty much the same, until you get to those things like paying to check your bags, and having to buy food.
