Fort Lauderdale’s hometown ultra low cost carrier Spirit Airlines begins daily non-stop service between San Antonio and Fort Lauderdale today. A second daily flight will begin on May 1, 2008.
The new route will be operated by Spirit’s Airbus fleet, the youngest in the Americas.
"I think two great cities are going to "discover" each other and the credit for that certainly goes to Spirit Airlines," said San Antonio Aviation Director Mark Webb. "Each city offers so much to its guests and now air travelers have an ultra low cost carrier providing a non-stop connection."
“As a Texan, I am very proud to be associated with an airline that is able to facilitate this new service by offering Texas travelers independence from high fares,” said San Antonio native and Spirit Airlines Vice President and Controller David Bradford.
In addition to San Antonio, Spirit has also announced that it will begin new service from Fort Lauderdale to Boston; New York’s Long Island; Cartagena, Colombia; and Columbia, South Carolina before this summer.
