Does anyone have suggestion re the cheapest way to travel to Burma from Sydney.Thanks

It might involve a stay in Bangkok, but you can take Jetstar to Bangkok, and then AirAsia to Yangon.  Jetstar flies to Yangon from Singapore, too, if you can find a cheap flight there.  Just remember that these aren't connecting flights, so if your plane is late, you may be on your own and out the price of the on-going ticket.
