Startup airline
Virgin America began service to Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, expanding its service on the east coast.
The airline launched D.C. service with two daily nonstop flights to San Francisco International Airport. Virgin America already flies to New York City from San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Virgin America began flying last month. The privately held company, owned in part by British billionaire Richard Branson, offers low-fare domestic service. The airline said it plans to serve as many as 10 cities within 12 months of operation.
Service between San Francisco (SFO) and Washington D.C. (IAD) began on September 26.
Service between Los Angeles (LAX) and Washington D.C. (IAD) will begin on October 24.
