Thai AirAsia, the Thai subsidiary of AirAsia, is pulling out of the highly contested Bangkok-New Delhi route. The withdrawal will begin with a reduction to four flights a week from February 14 and full suspension from March 24, 2012.
TAA’s announcement of axing the Bangkok-New Delhi service came a week after its affiliated long-haul low-cost carrier AirAsia X decided to end flights from Kuala Lumpur to Gatwick airport in London and Orly in Paris.
Asian budget airline AirAsia X has officially announced it will start offering daily flights between Sydney, Austraia, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Service will start from April 1, 2012, making this the airline’s fourth fourth Australian destination after Gold Coast, Melbourne and Perth.
To celebrate this new route, fares are on sale and start from just USD $65 one-way including taxes and surcharges.
AirAsia X, the long-haul division of AirAsia, has officially announced it is terminating routes from Kuala Lumpur to London, Paris, Mumbai, and New Dehli.
The airline will suspend its four weekly flights to Mumbai from January 31, daily flights to New Delhi from March 22, six weekly flights to London from March 31 and four weekly flights to Paris from March 30.
AirAsia will send all customers with bookings after the cancellation dates an email outlining their options which include a full refund, a reroute to another AirAsia X destination, or a ticket on an alternative carrier where available.
Thai Air Asia has announced it will begin a daily direct service from Bangkok, Thailand to Colombo, Sri Lanka starting March 1, 2012. It will be the first budget airline to serve this route.
Flight FD 3880 will depart Bangkok at 06:25 and arrive in Colombo at 08:35 local time. Flight FD 3881 will depart Colombo at 09:35 and arrive in Bangkok at 14:15 local time. AirAsia will operate this route using an Airbus A320 aircraft.
The Philippines government has revealed plans to build a new budget terminal this year at Clark International Airport in order to cope with demand.
According to local newspaper reports, the new budget terminal which will be located at the Clark Freeport in Pampanga will take three years to complete and will be able to handle 10 million passengers a year when it is finished.
Airlines that fly out of Clark are local carriers Cebu Pacific, Southeast Asian Airlines (SEAir) and AirPhil Express; South Korean companies’ Jin Air and Asiana Airlines, Malaysia’s AirAsia, and Singapore’s Tiger Airways.
AirAsia Indonesia, the Indonesian subsidiary of Asia’s biggest budget airline, will postpone its initial public offering (IPO) until 2012 due to the global economic slowdown.
In March 2011 the airline announced plans for a public listing in the final quarter of the year. AirAsia Indonesia hoped to raise up to $200 million and named CIMB Securities Indonesia and Credit Suisse Securities Indonesia as its joint-lead underwriters.
However, on December 12, 2011, AirAsia Indonesia’a corporate communication manager Audrey Petriny stated “”The preparation for IPO is going well, but we decided to postpone it due to inconducive global economic conditions.” She said the 2012 launch date would depend on the “progress of the global economy”.
AirAsia, the leading budget airline in Southeast Asia, has announced two new routes to Thailand and Malaysia starting in 2012.
From their hub at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, AirAsia will fly to Semarang, Indonesia, once per day and to Surat Thani, Thailand, three times per week. Promotional one-way fares start from MYR79 (UDS25) including taxes. Service will commence on February 6, 2012.

Thai AirAsia has announced they will begin Bangkok – Trang flights on January 15, 2012. This new route to the southern province of Trang on the Andaman Sea coast expands this budget airline’s domestic network to 11 destinations within Thailand.
There will be one flight per day departing Bangkok at 9.20am and arriving in Trang at 10.40am. The return flight departs Trang at 11.25am and arrives in Bangkok at 12.45pm.
To attract interest for the new route, Thai AirAsia is offering promotional fares for as little as THB690 (USD23) one-way (all-inclusive) for travel between January 15 and June 30, 2012. This route is already served by competing budget airlines Nok Air and Orient Thai.
In the annual global survey conducted by respected London-based aviation consultants Skytrax, almost 18 million travelers polled worldwide chose AirAsia as the World’s Best Low Cost Airline for the second consecutive year. AirAsia came out tops in the independent survey that measures airlines’ product and service standards.
