Flybe to expand services from East Midlands and Birmingham

Low-cost carrier Flybe has announced it will be expanding its services from East Midlands and Birmingham airports in the UK. This comes just days after news that BmiBaby will be reducing the frequency of these routes and eventually ceasing all operations later this year.

Flybe will be doubling its weekday flights to from Birminghand to Belfast City Airport to four a day. The airline also plans to operate additional flights from East Midlands to Amsterdam, Paris, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Jersey in the coming months.

Flybe drops its £9 debit card fee

British budget airline Flybe has dropped its £9 flat fee for passengers paying for by debit card for flights booked online. This change comes just at Britain’s Office of Fair Trading is considering action against airlines that pass on the debit card transaction fees to the consumer.

Most budget airlines currently charge a transaction fee per flight leg, per passenger. Flybe’s decision to drop this fee may lead to other budget airlines like Ryanair or EasyJet having to drop theirs too in order to remain competitive.

Flybe and Loganair to launch three new routes from Norwich

Flybe and its franchise partner Loganair have announced plans to operate a total of three new routes from Norwich International Airport. These three new routes will be to Exeter, Manchester and Newquay and service will be begin in March 2012.

Two new non-stop Flybe services will operate to the West Country: daily services between Norwich and Exeter will start on Sunday 25 March and a brand new summer service to Newquay will operate on Wednesdays and Saturdays between 5 May and 22 September. Both flights take just 75 minutes and offer huge time savings versus a five- or six-hour journey by road or rail. With one-way fares from just £39.99 including taxes and charges, the cost of air travel remains a convenient and highly competitive travel option.
