Volaris to launch three new domestic routes in October

Mexican low-cost carrier Volaris will add three new domestic routes starting in October 2012. The new routes are Tijuana-Tepic, Tijuana-Queretaro, and Queretaro-Cancun.

Volaris will operate two round-trip flights per week on these new routes.

Tijuana to Tepic flights will begin on October 15. Tijuana to Queretaro and Queretaro Cancun flights will begin on October 18.

VivaColombia launches two new domestic routes

VivaColombia has launched two new domestic routes from its base at Medellin.

The low-cost airline now offers 3 flights per week to Monteria and four flights per week to San Andres Island.

VivaColombia is Colombia’s first low-cost airline and commenced operations in May 2012. So far the airline only offers domestic flights, but hopes to launch international services to the USA and South America in 2013.

AirTran offers new routes to Mexico & Puerto Rico

AirTran, a subsidiary of Southwest Airlines, has launched new international routes to Mexico and Puerto Rico.

On May 24, 2012, it began service from San Antonia, TX, to Mexico City and Cancun. Service from Austin, TX, to Cancun begins on May 25.

On June 3, 2012, AirTran will launch flights from Orange County, CA, to Cabo San Lucas and Mexico City.

In addition, on May 24 AirTran began its new service from Fort Lauderdale, FL, to San Juan, Puerto Rico with two flights per day.

REDjet suspends all operations

REDjet, the first budget airline based in the Caribbean, has suspended all operations until further notice. The announcment was posted on the airline’s website on March 16, 2012, and cites financial losses as the cause.

The statement read: “REDjet has no alternative but to suspend flights from 23:59pm on 16th March until further notice. All passengers booked on any REDjet flight from Saturday should contact the call centre 24 hours before scheduled departure time for an update on their flight status.”

The statement also said more information would be released in the coming days, and that affected passengers will receive a refund. The full statement can be found at http://www.flyredjet.com/.

REDjet is a new entry into the struggling American budget airline market, and only began operations in May 2011.

Interjet now flies Mexico City – Miami

Interjet, the Mexico-based budget airline, commenced its newest route from Mexico City to Miami on February 23, 2012. The airline will offer daily flights from Monday to Friday and two flights per day on Saturdays and Sundays.

The route is operated using a Airbus A320 aircraft. Promotional round-trip fares start from USD349 and are available through the Interjet website.

VivaAerobus Launches New Flights from San Antonio – Monterrey

On November 15, 2011, Mexican budget airline VivaAerobus announced a new international route between San Antonio, USA, and Monterrey, Mexico. The frequency will be three flights per week on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday. Total prices start from $79 USD.

“The city of San Antonio serves a pivotal role in VivaAerobus’ plans for international growth,” said VivaAerobus CEO, Juan Carlos Zuazua, adding, “With this new route, our carrier is contributing to strengthen those ties that exist between these two important cities. Traditionally many people from Monterrey visit San Antonio for shopping, business, or simply a leisure trip.”

With the addition of this new flight, VivaAerobus now operates 6 routes to the United State and 43 domestic routes.

Interjet new route Mexico City – Havana, Cuba

Interjet, in a short 5 years since its inaugural flight on December 5th 2005, has already achieved historical success in Mexico´s commercial aviation sector, thanks to its innovative strategy of offering high quality products and services at affordable prices. According to official statistics, Interjet has achieved second place in total number of passengers transported (by market share) within Mexico, and as per publicly traded airline data, is one of the most efficient and profitable airlines, both in Latin America and around the world.

Through its hybrid business model (Low Cost Carrier – LLC) based on a strategy of combining higher quality service with efficient business practices, Interjet offers a superior product- making it the first airline in Mexico to achieve high quality service at an affordable price. This effective business strategy allows Interjet to satisfy the needs and requirements of diverse population sectors, and expands coverage to business and leisure market. Interjet is the first airline in Mexico and Latin America to implement the use of biofuels on its commercial flights. Biofuels have the potential to reduce up to 80% of CO2 emissions. Made from oils extracted from the seed of the Jatropha Curcas (a native Mexican plant), it is transformed into Synthetic Paraffinic Biokerosene (Bio-KPS). The biofuel is made of a combination 27% Bio-KPS and 73% traditional jet-fuel.
