African budget airline FastJet makes its debut

November 30, 2012 By Budget Airline News

African budget airline FastJet made its debut on November 29, 2012 with flights in Tanzania. The airline’s maiden flights were from the capital Dar es Salaam to Mwanza and Kilimanjaro.

FastJet will operate two daily flights on each route using A319 aircraft. One-way fares are as low as $20 USD plus taxes.

Commenting on FastJet’s debut, chief commercial officer Richard Bodin said: “Today’s flights to Kilimanjaro and Mwanza mark the start of a new, revolutionary, smart way to travel for African people, and our first steps towards becoming a low cost, reliable pan-African airline.”

FastJet plans to open a second base in Nairobi, Kenya in early 2013 and then expand to Accra, Ghana and Luanda, Angola.
